Besides the better known and more easily approachable places in the center and old town of Cologne, there are of course numerous spots all over the town that locals hold in high regards. For caffeine aficionados the place to go is definitely Schamong Kaffee in the district of Ehrenfeld. Since 1949, this family business is Cologne’s oldest coffee roaster and is as of today run in the third generation by members of the Schamong family.
Throughout the years the roastery with its over 50 year old but still perfectly running Probat roasting machine UG-15n made a name for itself even beyond city limits. Besides the actual roastery and a shop, customers can also get their favorite coffee-to-go or have a nice cup at the shop and read the paper before attending work.
For travelers who are looking to discover Cologne beyond the usual spots, this is definitely a place to check out.
